GCSE Drama
This course aims to: |
Teach students about a wide range of Theatre styles, develop creative and academic thinking skills whilst building confidence. Development on understanding of texts, practitioners and various performance styles. You will also learn about the technical side of theatre including set design, lighting and sound.

This course gives opportunity to engage through encouraging creativity, focusing on practical work which reflects twenty-first century theatre practice and developing skills that will support progression to further study of drama and a wide range of other subjects.

If you have a creative flair, this course is suitable for you. With options to take part in the GCSE as either a designer OR a performer you can learn about lighting, set design, sound.
This course is a mixture of practical and written, so it is ideal if you have a preference for practical learning.

Course structure |
The course has 3 components. Devising, Performance from text and Theatre makers in practise.
Devising: 40% of overall qualification – 60 marks
- Create and develop a devised piece from a stimulus (free choice for centre)
- Performance of this devised piece or design realisation for this performance
- Analyse and evaluate the devising process and performance
- Performer or designer routes available
Performance from text: 20% of overall qualification – 48 marks
- Students will either perform in and/or design for two key extracts from a performance text
- Centre choice of performance text
- Performer or designer routes available
Theatre Makers in Practice: 40% of overall qualification – 60 marks
Practical exploration and study of one complete performance text
- Choice of 12 performance texts
- Live theatre evaluation – free choice of production
